Description

The Seward Youth Center is a non-profit organization located in Seward, Nebraska. Established in 1997, we operate exclusively on donations, grants and fundraisers.

 

The Seward Youth Center runs a daily Afterschool Program for Middle School youth that offers an extended learning environment by encouraging youth’s sense of belonging and identity.  Afterschool presentations and activities are brought to the youth by the Seward Youth Center staff, as well as community organizations, local businesses and Concordia University students.

 

The Seward Youth Center is committed to providing opportunities for youth that will empower them and build on their self-esteem, while promoting positive peer interactions.

The Seward Youth Center also offers free tutoring conducted by college students. We strongly believe in and encourage the respect of each other, the respect for diversity, and the respect for authority.

 

Mission

We believe our youth need time to grow and develop strong roots that help sustain their foundation as adults. We will foster a positive sense of self-worth through programs that promote physical, mental, emotional and social development in the youth of our community. We will provide opportunities for healthy growth and development in all youth with the inspiration and guidance of caring mentors.

 

 

 

 

Youth Center Staff

 

Director – Sue McHugh, comes to the center with 13 years of experience in marketing and sales working with small communities for a non-profit organization.  McHugh is married, has two children and active in her church.  McHugh is an alumnus of the Unite 16, Seward Leadership Class.

 

 

Activities Coordinators:

Malinda Standerfer is a student at Concordia, originally from Indiana, she has worked as a Summer Camp Counselor as well as a Junior High Youth Leader.

 

Ray Kline is a student at Concordia, orginally from Indiana as well, Ray has worked as a Camp Counselor at Camp Luther in Colorado.

 

Aidan Moon is a student at Concordia.  Aidan is from Colorado and is also a Camp Couslor at Camp Luther in Colorado.
